HIGH MOUNTAIN GRAVEL

Crooked Gravel takes a few cues from an exploratory event the legendary Ron Kiefel put together a decade ago called Crooked Roubaix. Back before gravel bikes were really a thing, Kiefel and some friends set out on a 95-mile dirt-road adventure from Winter Park up into the high mountains on road bikes.

Fast forward to 2022 and gravel bikes are a thing. Our two courses take in the very best of Grand County gravel, with long, winding climbs up through aspen and pine forests, wide open descents under the massive Colorado sky.

If nothing worth doing is easy, then Crooked Gravel is certainly worth doing. Our long route tackles over 5,000 feet of climbing on gravel, and our short route is perfect for beginners.  All beginning at an elevation of 8,600 feet.

NEW FOR 2022

  • 2 new courses, 30 & 67 Miles
  • Long course (67 Mile) will be timed with a cash purse.  $5,000 up for grabs.
  • Police escort out of the Town of Winter Park for both routes

ALPINE GLORY

Winter Park is a Rocky Mountain Mecca for skiing and mountain biking, but only a select few know what an incredible place it is for gravel riding. Crooked Gravel will change that. Join us on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

LODGING

Winter Park, Colorado’s favorite Playground, is also one of the most family-friendly destinations. Here are some ways to make sure your time is well spent and your time in Winter Park is unforgettable!

THE COURSE

High-altitude views abound in every direction. Crisp mountain air exhilarates the senses. And swarms of riders fire each other up. And that’s before the ride even starts!

Both the 30 and 67-mile routes get right down to business, taking riders from downtown Winter Park onto remote gravel roads and up into the mountains.

THE WEEKEND

Stick around after your race for an Alpine Celebration. Enjoy local BBQ, live entertainment and a beer garden, while checking out the latest cycling gear, accessories and products. You’ll find great bargains on apparel, equipment and more. Share with your friends and family that the expo is open during the race itself, so they may enjoy the exhibits while you’re out on the course.

THE EXPERIENCE

Once timing begins, riders who want to test their legs and compete for the purse will power ahead, while those who would just prefer to go their own pace will settle in for the day’s trek. There is no one right way to ride or race Crooked Gravel.
